Friday of old Jerusalem, Hadassah Ein Kerem hospital complex in 1958.
Jerusalem of the country’s early days needed a hospital in addition to the exciting one.
The chosen location was near the settlement of Ein Kerem in the Jerusalem mountains and covered an area of 1,200.
The overall idea was to establish a medical city around the hospital that would allow close living solutions for the hundreds of medical staff members who would work there.
In addition, the government wanted to move the Hebrew University campus to the area as well.
Opponents argued that the hospital should be built in the city center.
Finally, after deliberation, only the hospital and the academic campus were approved for planning, the idea of the medical city did not materialize, And the compromise between supporters and opponents did half the job.
The bare rocky mountains were planted with trees by the Jewish National Fund foundation and donors from abroad, The architect Yosef Neufeld was chosen for the task, and in 1956 the construction of the complex began and was fully completed in 1961.
From the dream and the vision and after all the Jewish wars, one of the most magnificent and important academic institutions in Israel and the world was born.
The Jerusalem forest, the neighborhoods, and nearby settlements are today surrounded by green forests, delightful corners, and green grass thanks to the wise people who looked 60 years ahead and decided to carry out the decision made in 1956.
A wise man who sees the future, and the rare and few trees and groves within the city should have started planting 20 years ago.
Shabbat of peace to the far and near from Jerusalem ❤️
