The Beit Hakerem neighborhood was founded in 1922 as a remote garden-like neighborhood, far from the city of Jerusalem. The founders, most of whom were members of the Second Aliyah, were secular Jews who immigrated from Eastern and Central Europe, and which also consisted of children who were born and raised in the country.
The name ‘Beit Hakerem’ was chosen for the neighborhood according to the verse in the book of Jeremiah, which states the following (6: 1):”על בית הכרם שאו משאת, כי רעה מצפון ושבר גדול”.
From the northwest, you will find the famous Jerusalem Pine Forest and from the west, you will find the Yefeh Nof neighborhood , surrounding the Jerusalem Forest as well as Mount Herzl. From the southwest, you will find the Shaare Zedek Hospital, as well as the Flori Shematov garden, situated off the hills of Beit Vagan, and from the south, you will find Givat Mordechai. From the east of Beit Hakerem, you will find Givat Ram and the Menachem Begin Highway, and to the north of Beit Hakerem, you will find Kiryat Moshe and the Chords Bridge. On the border between Beit Hakerem and Ramat Beit Hakerem, lies a small neighborhood called Givat Beit Hakerem, and between the Beit Hakerem neighborhood and the Yefeh Nof neighborhood, past the Herzl Boulevard, you will encounter a memorial garden shared by the two neighborhoods.
Beit Hakerem maintains its status as one of the most sought after and prestigious neighborhoods in Jerusalem. Despite the urban development of Jerusalem and its central location, it remains a quiet neighborhood, surrounded by low-rise buildings. Given its prime location and accessibility, Beit Hakerem is considered to be one of the most attractive neighborhoods to invest in, offering a wide range of luxury apartments for sale.
