Sha’arei Chessed is an old neighborhood located in central Jerusalem, bordering Rehavia, Nachlaot and Kiryat Wolfson. Its boundaries are as follows: in the north, Ha’Gra Street, in the east, Ussishkin Street, in the south, Ibn Shaprut & Haran Streets, and to the west, Diskin Street. The neighborhood was founded in 1909 on a land of 40 dunams and has maintained its religious-conservative standard for close to a hundred years. The neighborhood is mainly known for its people of grace and charity, as well as rabbis and scholars who have contributed to the Community, such as Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Auerbach, Rabbi Parush, Rabbi Harlap, among other leading Rabbis. In recent years, Sha’arei Chessed has become a modern Haredi neighborhood, where many upscale Jewish Anglo-Saxon families have settled in. The streets of Sha’arei Chessed are almost all named after religious figures from ancient and modern Jewish history. Sha’arei Chessed is located in the heart of modern Jerusalem.
